What is Thailand’s secret sauce to happiness?

Every year, millions of tourists flock to Thailand to taste the flavor-blasted food, experience the rich culture and dive into the clear-blue seas. Visitors regularly remark on the warm welcome they receive from their smiling hosts. That ubiquitous smile has become a staple of Thailand. So, why exactly are Thai people among the happiest (or least miserable, according to Bloomberg) in the world? We’ll show you the three-step recipe.

1. Sandwiched between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, Thailand’s southern coast lines and islands are home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and landscapes. While some locations are famous the world over, such as Koh Samui, Krabi and Phuket, a bounty of hidden gems are waiting to be explored. Suffice to say, Thai people have ready access to places most can only dream of.

2. From the bustling streets of Bangkok to the serene foothills of Chiang Mai, it is nearly impossible to not find a delicious meal wherever you turn. Each region has its own unique dishes and flavors, but all have traditions of rich tastes that are sure to satisfy.

3. Thai people place tremendous importance on family and community, giving individuals the support systems to help in times of need as well as groups to enjoy their leisure time with. After all, what’s the point of having beautiful beaches and delightful food if you have no one to enjoy them with?

The topography, food and emphasis on community are among the key ingredients to the happiness of Thai people. Still, Thailand faces substantial challenges that inhibit its continued development and limit the number of people who are able to participate fully in society. To address those challenges, Kenan works with vulnerable communities, such as those on mainland Surat Thani, to empower people with the knowledge, technology and skills necessary for a better future.

Learn how Kenan is working to support community development so we can sustainably enjoy the benefits of tourism.
