One of the key success factors of creating the Pencak Silat clubs is the community’s support. Throughout the project, Kenan and Kokchan worked together to gain community support by speaking with local leaders. This personal relationship-building enables the club to identify and recruit girls and at-risk youth. The project also cultivates relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, such as through Pencak silat demonstrations in schools, meetings with students and parents to promote self-empowerment, and the presentation of a pathway to further education through the club.
The local competition, or the sports day on October 22 2022, proved that many community stakeholders support the Pencak Silat project. The parents participate in the event to support their children. Some teachers come to the event to support and cheer their students. Moreover, the project fosters good cooperation with the community leaders and local governments, which is vital for building trust among the community residents toward the project. As a result, partnerships with local government and community stakeholders were established very well, with endorsements from the existing partnerships with the Kokchan subdistrict government office and schools.
