Coca-Cola (August 2016-July 2017)
The Sustainable Business with Coca-Cola for Female Sugarcane Growers project, part of Coca-Cola’s global 5by20 initiative to empower five million women across the company’s value chain by 2020, launched in 2016 with the aim of developing the financial and entrepreneurial skills of female farmers from Phetchabun and Uthai Thani provinces, and, as a result, enable them to lead sustainable agricultural operations.
To support this goal in year one, Kenan adapted its innovative financial literacy curriculum to meet the needs of female sugarcane farmers. Kenan’s five-module, activity-based training strengthened the participants’ understanding of spending, debt management, saving, household accounting, and entrepreneurship.
In addition, Thai Roong Ruang Sugar Group (TRR), a local Coca-Cola sugar supplier, conducted technical training on sustainable agriculture practices for program participants. Lastly, Kenan trained 29 TRR community engagement staff on financial literacy and consultation skills, which will allow them to maintain support for farmers beyond the life of the project.
The project benefitted 625 women, who now have the ability to manage their income efficiently and become economic change agents within their communities.
