USAID (2009-2012)
With funding from USAID, Kenan successfully implemented the GMS-RID project. Leveraging our unique regional capabilities, the two-pronged initiative fostered cross-border collaboration among public health offices in Vietnam and neighboring countries at the same time as pursuing the control and elimination of malaria directly.
Under the avian influenza component of the project, a program of “public health diplomacy” was instituted, now considered a model for cross-border cooperation on infectious disease, with significantly increased cooperation among public health officials in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, China and Vietnam. More than 520 officials in 15 provinces received response training on pandemic and avian influenza, anthrax, streptococcus suis, and pig, bat, and dog-borne zoonotic diseases.
