Caltex Fuel Your School

Seeking to improve youth employment prospects by fostering critical thinking among Thai middle school students, Caltex joined Kenan in 2014 to create the Caltex Fuel Your School project.

For the third consecutive year, Caltex and Kenan have teamed up to lead the Caltex Fuel Your School project, an innovative approach to increase the critical thinking skills of Thai students. In 2016, 60 students attended a Caltex Camp, where Kenan experts and Caltex volunteers led a series of engaging, project-based learning (PBL) activities that developed students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communications, and project management abilities. At their respective schools, the students share the knowledge they learned with their peers, and then implement community projects that address problems related to health and the environment. Additionally, Kenan trained teachers from the 10 participating schools to use PBL strategies to guide the students’ projects, as well as to improve classroom instruction. The Caltex Fuel Your School project, endorsed by Thailand’s Ministry of Education, is made possible because Caltex donates a percentage of its proceeds from fuel sales to improving public education in Thailand. To date, the project has trained 67 teachers and benefitted 983 students from 51 schools in Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Sa Kaeo and Ayutthaya provinces.
